Safari Dharma's crew stage protest<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Dozens of Safari Dharma's crew members blockaded the
\ncompany's buses on its gate Monday morning in their demonstration
\nasking for a pay rise and better management.<\/p>\n
The demonstration, which lasted until 2:00 p.m, caused the
\ncompany to postpone four bus departures, leaving about 120
\npassengers stranded.<\/p>\n
Holding up their posters in front of the bus company's
\nheadquarters, they presented 12 demands, including demand for
\nIdul Fitri and Christmas allowances, reemployment of dismissed
\nemployees, and weekly holidays.<\/p>\n
However, some of their colleagues refused to join the protest,
\nsaying that the company has given them enough wage which, they
\nsaid, was higher than other bus companies.<\/p>\n
At least one company of the police's elite mobile brigade,
\nheaded by the Subdistrict Police Chief Herri Wibowo, was deployed
\nto disperse the protesters, and in anticipation of an escalation
\nof the protest.<\/p>\n
Two employees and two activists from the SBSI (the Indonesian
\nWorkers' Union) were detained and were accused of provoking the
\nworkers to demonstrate.<\/p>\n
Should the blockade continue until nightfall, then 700 would-
\nbe passengers would be stranded.<\/p>\n
The protesters said that they would continue their
\ndemonstrations on Thursday if the company's management did not
