        "content": "<p>The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Saan\nMustopa, stated that the discussion of the Asset Forferessure Bill is\nstill underway in Commission III of the DPR, continuously absorbing\naspirations from various parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFormer leaders of the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) have\nalso been invited; everyone is invited to ensure the discussions are\nmore perfected,\u201d Saan said at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on\nTuesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Saan, parties related to law and asset forfeiture will\nbe given space to convey their views as material for refining the\nbill.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the DPR remains committed to completing the Asset\nForfeiture Bill according to the agreed schedule. The DPR targets the\nbill to be passed no later than 15 December 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn accordance with the agreement, following the timeline, it will\ncertainly be passed as agreed,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman, previously\nstated that preventing the abuse of authority is one of the key focuses\nbeing strengthened in the discussion of the Asset Forfeiture Bill.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, oversight mechanisms for law enforcement officials\nneed to be strengthened so that asset forfeiture powers are not misused\nfor specific interests, including against critical parties or those\nopposed to the authorities.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the improvement of officials and law enforcement\npractices must proceed alongside the drafting of the Asset Forfeiture\nBill. He also warned that asset forfeiture powers must not be applied\narbitrarily and must remain based on clear evidence.<\/p>\n<p>Saan stated that absorbing aspirations from various groups is a vital\npart of the discussion process to ensure the Asset Forfeiture Bill can\nbe drafted more comprehensively.<\/p>\n<p>The DPR previously also stated that the public can continue to\nprovide input through public hearing meetings (RDPU) in Commission III\nas part of public participation in the drafting of the bill.<\/p>",
