S. Korean firm enters Medan<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The South Korean-based chemical firm Marks and
\nSpencer Corp. plan to build a large chemical plant in Medan
\nIndustrial Estate (KIM), North Sumatra.<\/p>\n
KIM president Papo Hermawan was quoted by Antara news agency
\nas saying in Medan on Thursday that the Korean investor had
\nrented around eight hectares of the KIM II site, the expansion of
\nthe existing industrial estate for its plant.<\/p>\n
The KIM II is planned to become the biggest industrial estate
\noutside Java, with a total area of 314 hectares.<\/p>\n
At least 15 percent of the site has been sold to foreign
\ninvestors. Several foreign investors have also shown their
\ninterest in entering the industrial park, including those from
\nthe United Kingdom, Hermawan said.<\/p>\n
Hermawan said that several Japanese investors under PT Pacific
\nMedan have just completed the construction of a US$20 million
\nsamin oil plant in the area. The plant is expected to be
\nofficially inaugurated by the State Minister of
\nInvestment\/Chairman of the Investment Coordinating Board Hamzah
