One of Kyiv\u2019s drone strikes hit an area near\nSaint Petersburg, which recently hosted a major economic forum organised\nby Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>Russia and Ukraine have significantly increased mutual drone attacks\nin recent months, as US-mediated diplomatic efforts to end the\nconflict\u2014which has raged for nearly five years\u2014have stalled due to\ntensions in the Middle East. The St.\u00a0Petersburg International Economic\nForum (SPIEF), often referred to as \u2018Russia\u2019s Davos\u2019, concluded on\nSaturday (6\/6) local time, one day after President Vladimir Putin\ndelivered a speech at the event.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor of Leningrad, Aleksandr Drozdenko, announced that his\nregion was hit by dozens of drone strikes on Saturday. Leningrad, which\nincludes Saint Petersburg as its main city, serves as a vital location\nfor major Baltic ports. \u201cA total of 86 UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles or\ndrones) were shot down in the Leningrad region. Combat operations are\nongoing,\u201d Drozdenko stated.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday (3\/6), the first day of SPIEF, Ukrainian drones targeted\noil complexes and military bases in Saint Petersburg, which is also\nVladimir Putin\u2019s birthplace. In a statement, the Russian Ministry of\nDefence claimed that its air defences intercepted a total of 376\nUkrainian drones across various territories overnight. These locations\nincluded Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Leningrad, Novgorod, Oryol,\nPskov, Rostov, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tver, Tula, the Moscow region, the\nRepublic of Crimea, the Republic of Abkhazia, and over the waters of the\nSea of Azov and the Black Sea.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement released by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin,\nRussian forces also intercepted nine Ukrainian drones detected heading\ntowards the capital, Moscow, on Saturday. Meanwhile, in the southern\nRussian town of Ust-Labinsk, local authorities reported a fire at an oil\ndepot following a drone strike, though no casualties were reported from\nthe incident.<\/p>",
