According\nto NBC News, the shipments use a direct one-way route from Russia to\nIran by sea.<\/p>\n<p>The Caspian Sea borders Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and\nTurkmenistan. Western navies do not operate in these waters, making\nshipments between Russian and Iranian ports difficult for the US and its\nallies to intercept.<\/p>\n<p>The route has drawn Israeli attention since the Zionist regime bombed\nIran\u2019s Bandar Anzali port on the Caspian Sea in late March.\nNevertheless, shipping activity has continued following the Israeli\nattack.<\/p>\n<p>The shipments from Russia mark a significant development in the\nreciprocal relationship between Moscow and Tehran. Until now, Iran has\nbeen the primary arms supplier to Russia since the 2022 invasion of\nUkraine, including Shahed drones.<\/p>\n<p>Tehran has also reportedly transferred technology that has enabled\nRussia to produce Iranian-designed drones domestically. Moscow\nsubsequently modified the Shahed drone and scaled up its domestic\nproduction.<\/p>\n<p>More recently, Moscow has increased the flow of arms assistance to\nTehran. In addition to supplying drones, Russia has also provided Tehran\nwith satellite imagery and intelligence for operations targeting US\nbases in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent report by The Gaze, Ukrainian intelligence identified\nevidence showing that Russia has provided Iran with satellite imagery of\nUS military activity and strategic sites in the Persian Gulf. Ukrainian\nPresident Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also rejected the premise that Iranian\nattacks on Ukraine are merely a future risk, arguing that Tehran can\neffectively launch attacks by supplying Russia with Shahed drones,\nrelated technology and weapons production licences.<\/p>",
