        "content": "<p>The rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar at the close of\ntrading on Tuesday weakened by 106 points, or 0.60 percent, to Rp17,861\nper US dollar, compared with the previous close of Rp17,755 per US\ndollar.<\/p>\n<p>Money market analyst Ibrahim Assuaibi said the rupiah\u2019s depreciation\nwas influenced by US-Iran relations, which dashed hopes for the\nreopening of the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United States and Iran are both demanding compensation for the\nrecent military attacks, thereby dashing hopes that the two sides were\nclose to an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz,\u201d he said in a\nwritten statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The two countries were said to have made conflicting claims regarding\nthe status of the Strait of Hormuz.
