        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - The rupiah closed trading in Jakarta on Wednesday\n47 points or 0.28 per cent weaker at Rp16,884 per US dollar, down from\nthe previous level of Rp16,837 per US dollar.<\/p>\n<p>Money market analyst Ibrahim Assuaibi said the rupiah\u2019s decline was\nin line with market scepticism towards the Iran-US negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough Iran and the US reached an understanding on Tuesday (17\/2)\nregarding key \u2018guiding principles\u2019 in talks aimed at resolving their\nlong-standing nuclear dispute, that does not mean an agreement will be\nreached soon, said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi,\u201d he stated in\na written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The negotiation process between the two countries is being closely\nmonitored by energy markets as Iran is a major oil producer and is\nsituated along the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a narrow\nwaterway through which approximately one-fifth of global oil consumption\npasses daily.<\/p>\n<p>Military risks were said to remain elevated following reports on\nMonday (16\/2) that Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guard conducted exercises in the\nStrait of Hormuz, as US forces remain deployed in large numbers\nthroughout the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>Additional sentiment stemmed from investor caution ahead of the\nrelease of the Federal Reserve\u2019s January policy meeting minutes, which\ncould provide fresh insight into the potential for monetary easing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvestors are also awaiting the US personal consumption expenditure\n(PCE) price index report for December, due to be released on Friday \u2014\nthe Fed\u2019s preferred inflation indicator that could shape interest rate\nexpectations,\u201d Ibrahim said.<\/p>\n<p>Bank Indonesia\u2019s Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) also\nweakened on the day to Rp16,884 per US dollar from the previous level of\nRp16,844 per US dollar.<\/p>",
