Rukindo admits leakage<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The president of state-owned dredging company PT
\nRukindo, Baharudin Wahab, said yesterday that his company has
\nexperienced some \"financial leakage.\"<\/p>\n
\"Deviation and financial leakage did occur in our companies,
\nbut we shouldn't necessarily relate them to corruption,\" he said
\nat a hearing with House Commission V for finance, trade,
\ncooperatives and logistics.<\/p>\n
He did not give any overall figures, saying only that in the
\nsecond quarter of this year the company incurred Rp 7.8 billion
\n(US$3.4 million) in \"financial leakage\" (unexpected expenses).<\/p>\n
Baharudin admitted that his company has been having efficiency
\nproblems and has experienced setbacks due to delays in dredging
\nprojects in west and east Ancol, North Jakarta, and in the
\nKrakatau port of Cilegon, West Java.<\/p>\n
The inefficiencies were partly caused by his employees, many
\nof whom, he said, lack professionalism.<\/p>\n
Baharudin also reported other problems that plagued his
\ncompany's performance during the second quarter, including
\nequipment failures and problems with its dredging ships.<\/p>\n
He said that his company expects to receive a loan of Rp 60
\nbillion for equipment and ship repair. \"We're currently
\nnegotiating with a number of financial institutions to get the
\nloan,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He projected that his company would gain a profit of about Rp
\n3.5 billion this year. \"At the least we hope to avoid incurring
\nmore losses this year,\" he said. (13)<\/p>",
