RSUPN Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) reports that the psychological state of KontraS activist Andrie Yunus remains stable following a severe traumatic incident involving an acid attack. While under multidisciplinary medical monitoring, his wounds are showing improvement with new skin grafts, though further procedures are planned for remaining dead tissue and his right eye, which underwent a third surgery and is temporarily closed for protection. The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has designated four military personnel as suspects in the attack, charged with assault, amid claims from civil society groups of a larger intelligence operation involving at least 16 field actors.

RSUP National Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) has stated that the
psychological condition of Deputy Coordinator for External Affairs of
the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS),
Andrie Yunus (27), is currently stable enough, despite recently
experiencing a severe traumatic event.

Andrie remains under observation by a multidisciplinary medical team
consisting of plastic surgery specialists, ophthalmologists, and other
healthcare professionals to ensure the recovery process proceeds
optimally and continuously.

“Overall, the patient’s psychological condition is quite stable
despite the severe traumatic event,” RSCM said in a press statement
delivered by Public Relations officer Sylvia on Tuesday (31/3)
night.

Sylvia explained that the medical team will continue to provide
psychological support to ensure the patient remains calm and able to
follow the treatment process optimally.

The patient’s wound condition, she clarified, shows improvement with
most wounds closed and dry, covered by new skin from grafts in the
facial area, front neck, chest, part of the shoulder, and right arm.

Two evaluations of the wounds under sedation are planned this week to
ensure the healing process is progressing well.

“There is still an area of dead skin on the back of the neck that
will be cleaned and covered with further skin grafts in the next week,”
she said.

RSCM emphasises its commitment to providing optimal, professional
medical care that prioritises patient safety.

“We urge the public to remain calm and trust the medical team in
handling this case,” she said.

Eye condition

Sylvia stated that on 28 March, the patient underwent a third
operation on his right eye. Currently, complaints of pain are minimal
and no signs of infection have been found.

During the surgery, the corneal surface was found to be thinning
further with leakage in the eyeball wall. To prevent further damage, the
eyeball was patched with tissue from the patient’s limb, then covered
with conjunctival membrane.

The right eye is intentionally kept closed temporarily by suturing
the eyelid to protect and maintain the eyeball’s shape during the
healing process.

Sylvia said this closure is planned to last about four months, after
which the medical team will conduct further evaluations to determine the
next steps.

“Monitoring of the eye condition will be carried out regularly
according to the patient’s progress,” she said.

Previously, Andrie Yunus was terrorised with an acid attack about two
weeks ago after speaking at a podcast at the Indonesian Legal Aid
Foundation (YLBHI) office titled “Remilitarisation & Judicial Review
of the TNI Law”.

Police had announced the initials of two suspects, but at the same
time, the TNI also announced that it had detained four individuals from
the TNI BAIS Headquarters Detachment (Denma) as the field perpetrators
of the acid attack on Andrie.

Most recently, on Tuesday night, TNI Headquarters through TNI Chief
of Information Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah stated that the four
soldiers have been designated as suspects.

“The four perpetrators have been designated as suspects and have been
detained at the military detention facility (Maximum Security) of the
Jaya Guntur Military Police Command since 18 March 2026,” Aulia Dwi
Nasrullah’s statement read, received on Tuesday (31/3) night.

“The article applied to the suspects is the assault article,” he
added.

Meanwhile, the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), consisting of
several civil society organisations, claims that the field perpetrators
of the acid attack on Andrie involved at least 16 people. TAUD describes
this as an intelligence operation.

“We have found at least 16 field perpetrators. Even if we are given
further opportunity later, we would be happy to discuss and present the
evidence, but then we see there is a handover process,” said Director of
the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Fadhil Alfathan during a Hearing
Meeting (RDP) with Commission III of the Indonesian House of
Representatives (DPR RI), Jakarta, Tuesday (31/3).
",
