        "content": "<p>RP volcano threat downgraded<\/p>\n<p>MANILA (AP): Scientists downgraded a state of alert around a<br>\ncentral Philippine volcano on Friday after lava flows halted and<br>\nthe danger of another eruption subsided.<\/p>\n<p>Earth tremors and gas emissions from the Mayon volcano, which<br>\nerupted last month and forced as many as 50,000 people to<br>\nevacuate the area, had dropped sharply, the Philippine Institute<br>\nof Volcanology and Seismology said.<\/p>\n<p>The institute downgraded alert levels around the volcano from<br>\nfour to three, which allows life to return to normal around<br>\nMayon. Alert level five is the highest, indicating an ongoing<br>\neruption.<\/p>\n<p>\"In another week, we will decide if we can put the alert level<br>\ndown again,\" said volcanologist Juan Cordon Jr. Most evacuees<br>\nhave already returned to their homes and farms in the rich soil<br>\naround Mayon, in the central Philippine province of Albay,<br>\nauthorities said.<\/p>",
