        "content": "<p>RP to tap $1b from Japan<\/p>\n<p>MANILA (AFP): A Philippine government holding firm will tap a<br>\nspecial US$1 billion loan from Japan to fund development<br>\nprojects, it was announced here yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Dakila Fonacier, general manager of the state-owned National<br>\nDevelopment Corp. (NDC) said the Japanese firm, Marubeni Corp.,<br>\ncommunicated the offer of the 40-year loan which will have a 0.75<br>\npercent interest and a 10-year grace period.<\/p>\n<p>Fonacier said the Japanese government wanted to take a role in<br>\npump-priming economies in Southeast Asia and would likely prefer<br>\nto channel the funds to projects where Japanese firms are<br>\nactively participating.<\/p>\n<p>He said the government was preparing a list of projects that<br>\ncould benefit from the facility.<\/p>\n<p>The Japanese cited the Philippine Phosphate Fertilizer Corp.<br>\n(Philphos), an ailing NDC company heavily indebted to Japanese<br>\nfirms, as a possible beneficiary.<\/p>",
