        "content": "<p>RP rebels say U.S. hostage alive<\/p>\n<p>ZAMBOANGA, Philippines (AP): American hostage Jeffrey<br>\nSchilling is still alive nearly a month after the Philippine<br>\nmilitary launched a massive operation to rescue him and four<br>\nother hostages from a group of Muslim rebels, a guerrilla<br>\nspokesman said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>However, Abu Sabaya, spokesman for the Abu Sayyaf rebels,<br>\nrefused to allow Schilling to be interviewed by Radio Mindanao<br>\nNetwork, which he called to deny rumors the American had been<br>\nkilled.<\/p>\n<p>It was the first time the rebels have made a public statement<br>\nin nearly three weeks.<\/p>\n<p>In previous interviews with the same radio station, Sabaya<br>\nallowed Schilling to speak, and the American appealed to the<br>\ngovernment to negotiate with the rebels instead of pressing ahead<br>\nwith the military operation. The rebels are also holding three<br>\nMalaysians and one Filipino.<\/p>",
