RP military warns JI planning attacks<\/p>\n
PHILIPPINES: The Philippine military warned on Friday that the
\nregional Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) group was planning to launch fresh
\nattacks in the country with the help of local Muslim separatist
\nrebels.<\/p>\n
According to an intelligence report, at least 15 members of
\nthe separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have been
\nidentified as the local contacts of 33 JI militants still
\noperating in the southern region of Mindanao.<\/p>\n
Three of the MILF rebels have been arrested separately in
\nApril and October 2004 for their alleged involvement in bomb
\nattacks, the report said.<\/p>\n
The military warned that the JI militants were planning terror
\nattacks with the help of these MILF members.<\/p>\n
\"They have standing plans to launch terrorist activities in
\nkey urban areas in Mindanao,\" the intelligence report said.<\/p>\n
\"Apparently, as part of the said plan, an unidentified MILF
\ninstructor and three Indonesian JI bomb experts reportedly
\nsupervised the training of MILF recruits in the conduct of
\nguerrilla operations and the mass production of homemade bombs,\"
