        "content": "<p>RP gets $600m loan<\/p>\n<p>MANILA (AFP): The Philippines signed agreements for Japanese<br>\nloans worth 600-million dollars under the so-called Miyazawa<br>\nfund, it was announced here Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The two US$300 million loans are to co-finance reform programs<br>\nin the Philippines' power and banking sectors with the World Bank<br>\nand the Asian Development Bank, a statement from the finance<br>\ndepartment said.<\/p>\n<p>The agreements were signed by Finance Secretary Edgardo<br>\nEspiritu and Hidemi Kawai, senior executive director of the<br>\nExport-Import Bank of Japan.<\/p>\n<p>The reforms that the Japanese funds will help bankroll would<br>\nhave \"far reaching impact\" in reinforcing the economy to help it<br>\n\"withstand financial shocks,\" Espiritu said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the banking sector reform program would help<br>\nstrengthen the regulatory functions of the financial system as<br>\nwell as promote transparency, and the power sector reforms were<br>\naimed at developing a more private sector-driven environment.<\/p>",
