Rp 55 billion needed to rebuild market<\/p>\n
BOGOR (JP): The Bogor administration has appointed a private
\ndeveloper to rebuild the Pasar Kembang market in Bogor destroyed
\nby fire last March.<\/p>\n
PT Propindo Mulya Utama's president Aang Hamid Suganda said
\nthe market's reconstruction would cost Rp 55 billion (US$32.1
\nmillion).<\/p>\n
"The Bogor mayoralty has given us 24 months to reconstruct the
\nmarket," Aang said yesterday at the mayoralty's office.<\/p>\n
He said his company had five alternative plans for the market
\nbut refused to revealed details.<\/p>\n
According to Aang, Mayor Eddy Gunardi told the company to
\nconsider suggestions from the mayoralty and the Directorate
\nGeneral of Human Settlement (Cipta Karya) of the Ministry of
\nPublic Works.<\/p>\n
Mayor Eddy confirmed the market, which covered five blocks
\nbefore the fire, would be rebuilt.<\/p>\n
Eddy said the reconstruction project should consider the
\ndirectorate general's suggestion that two of the market's blocks
\nbe renovated and the remaining three be totally rebuilt.<\/p>\n
According to Eddy, the mayoralty was demolishing the remaining
\nsections of the gutted building.<\/p>\n
"We need at least four months to clean up the market," Eddy
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The fire claimed the lives of 10 department store employees at
\nthe market and forced thousands of small kiosk owners to move to
\na road in front of the market, causing traffic jams along the
