        "content": "<p>JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBNI) has admitted\nto being duped in the case of embezzlement of funds belonging to members\nof the Credit Union (CU) Paroki Aek Nabara in Rantauprapat, North\nSumatra, amounting to Rp 28 billion.<\/p>\n<p>This state-owned bank stated that the case also caused losses to the\ncompany.<\/p>\n<p>BNI\u2019s Director of Human Capital &amp; Compliance, Munadi Herlambang,\nsaid the loss figure is based on the latest developments in the police\ninvestigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have conducted initial verification and coordination with law\nenforcement authorities. We have returned Rp 7 billion in the initial\nstage, and BNI is also among those affected in this incident,\u201d Munadi\nsaid during an online press conference on Sunday (18\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Munadi explained that this case involves actions by rogue individuals\nwho conducted transactions outside the official banking system and\nauthority.<\/p>\n<p>The products used in this practice are confirmed not to be official\nBNI products and are not recorded in the company\u2019s operational\nsystem.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, BNI reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the return\nof customer funds.<\/p>\n<p>The refund process will be carried out based on the results of the\nlaw enforcement investigation and formalised in a legal agreement\nbetween the relevant parties.<\/p>\n<p>As an initial step, BNI has returned Rp 7 billion to CU Paroki Aek\nNabara.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have made an initial refund of Rp 7 billion, and the remainder\nwill be settled this week,\u201d Munadi said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the resolution of this case is being handled with\nprinciples of transparency, accountability, and prudence to provide\nlegal certainty for all parties.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, BNI assures that customer funds stored in official\nproducts remain safe and are not impacted by this case.<\/p>",
