Rp 25 million chair for E. Java governor<\/p>\n
SURABAYA: The purchase of an imported Italian leather chair
\nfor Rp 25 million for the governor of East Java has sparked
\nprotest among provincial councilors, who have criticized it as
\n\"an absurd waste of money\".<\/p>\n
The controversial chair, made out of thick hardwood and
\nstainless steel, was part of the gubernatorial office's new
\nprocurements.<\/p>\n
\"It's complete nonsense for such a chair to be valued at such
\na high price,\" Fathur Rosyad, a local councilor, said on Friday.<\/p>\n
The new chair was included in furniture items acquired as part
\nof an estimated Rp 15 billion renovation project at the
\ngubernatorial building.<\/p>\n
Governor Imam Utomo, however, said he had no idea of the
\npurchase as the renovation project was instigated under the
\nformer governorship of Basofi Soedirman.<\/p>\n
Imam vowed not to use the \"expensive\" office until the matter
