Sleman Regency is set to host a new cable car tourism attraction in Prambanan with an investment of approximately Rp 200 billion, initiated entirely by private investors and currently undergoing permitting processes. Local authorities are supporting the project due to its potential to boost regional original income through entertainment taxes and related revenues, while coordinating with central government bodies on protected paddy land policies. The 8-kilometre route will connect Banyunibo to key tourist spots including Tebing Breksi, enhancing Prambanan's status as a national strategic tourism destination.

Sleman Regency is set to have a cable car tourism attraction in the
Prambanan sub-district area. The project is said to have an investment
value of around Rp 200 billion and is currently in the permitting
process.

Head of the Sleman Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency
(DPMPTSP), Triana Wahyuningsih, stated that the idea for building the
cable car came purely from investors. The Sleman Regency Government, she
said, supports every investment that enters because it is deemed capable
of increasing regional original revenue (PAD).

“It is truly the idea from the investors. The Sleman Regency
Government will support every investment because it relates to
increasing PAD; with the cable car, entertainment taxes and so on can
come in,” said Triana to reporters on Thursday (7/5/2026).

Triana explained that the Sleman Regency Government is also
accompanying the permitting process for the project. According to her,
the initial stage that must be fulfilled is the KKPR or Spatial
Utilisation Activity Compliance.

From the spatial planning study results, the project location is
deemed suitable for artificial tourism development.

“For the beginning, it must have KKPR first, spatial compliance. If
the spatial planning is indeed already suitable there for artificial
tourism development activities,” she said.

She added that the permitting process also relates to the Protected
Paddy Land (LSD) policy, which is under the authority of the central
government through the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial
Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN). Triana stated that the Sleman
Regency Government has directly coordinated with the Ministry regarding
that matter.

“The Regent has also directly led to the Ministry of ATR to convey
that there is LSD there. The Ministry of ATR actually also supports it,”
she said.

In addition, the Prambanan area is included in the national strategic
area for tourism destination development, thus deemed potential for the
project.

Regarding the route, Triana mentioned that the cable car is planned
to have a track of around 8 kilometres. The route starts from the
Banyunibo area to several tourist spots up to the Tebing Breksi
area.

“Approximately around 8 kilometres from Banyunibo, then to Tebing
Breksi and back again,” she said.

On the investment value, Triana said the investors are preparing
funds of around Rp 200 billion for the project.

“If the information from the investors is around Rp 200 billion,” she
said.

Currently, the land permitting process is still ongoing, including
regarding the use of village treasury land, whose authority lies with
the provincial government.

“This is still in process for land permitting because there is use of
village treasury land which is indeed under the provincial government’s
authority,” she concluded.
",
