Rotterdam to help work on museums<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Following up an earlier agreement, the visiting
\nmayor of Rotterdam Ivo W. Opstelten said he planned to support
\nthe preservation of Jakarta's historical sites, especially its
\nmuseums.<\/p>\n
\"Some experts, including the directors of historical and
\nmaritime museums of Rotterdam, will come to Jakarta and give
\nadvice (on this matter),\" Opstelten said Saturday during a visit
\nto historical buildings here.<\/p>\n
Rotterdam is one of Jakarta's several sister cities.<\/p>\n
Apart from Rotterdam, the Amsterdam administration is also
\nsupporting work on museums, such as by providing training on
\nmuseum management.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, head of the City Museum and Preservation Agency,
\nRobert P. Silalahi, said several of his staff would be sent to
\nRotterdam for training related to museum-related technology and
\nmanagement.<\/p>\n
Head of the Jakarta Historical Museum, Tinia Budiarti, praised
\nRotterdam's support for historical conservation in the city.
\nSince 1986, the city has focused on upgrading Jakarta's
\ninfrastructure, including river and waste management.<\/p>\n
Tinia said the program with Rotterdam could provide useful
\ncomparisons, for instance, with the layout of its exhibition
\nrooms and conservation technologies.<\/p>\n
During his one-day visit, the mayor and his entourage visited
\nSunda Kelapa Port, the Maritime Museum, the Fish Market, the
\nJakarta Historical Museum, the Puppet Museum and the Arts and
