        "content": "<p>`Rose of Thailand' no longer so sweet<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK (AFP): The northern Thai provincial capital of Chiang<br>\nMai, once dubbed the \"Rose of Thailand,\" is wrestling with a<br>\nthorny question these days: where to dump its trash.<\/p>\n<p>Chiang Mai administrators ran out of dumping sites two weeks<br>\nago and have been unable to find any new ones, according to local<br>\ndailies and Thai television.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the garbage has piled up in the streets,<br>\nwhere foraging rats and dogs have torn open trash bags and<br>\nspilled the refuse.<\/p>\n<p>Residents of the city, where the scent of jasmine and incense<br>\nusually waft from the many temples, say they cannot sleep because<br>\nof the stench.<\/p>\n<p>Chiang Mai is one of the country's most prosperous and popular<br>\ntourist destinations, but has grown in a rapid, unwieldy rate in<br>\nthe past decade.<\/p>",
