If the quality of fish and seafood declines, it does not only result\nin economic impacts, such as low selling prices or products becoming\nunsellable; there are also implications for health and a reduction in\nour export value.<\/p>\n
Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - A member of Commission IV of the\nIndonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Rokhmin Dahuri, stated\nthat the Red and White Fisherman Village (KNMP) needs to utilise cold\nchains to improve the welfare of fishermen and Indonesia\u2019s export\ncompetitiveness.<\/p>\n
According to him, energy-efficient cold chains are essential\ninfrastructure for maintaining the quality of fish from the moment they\nare caught or harvested until they reach the consumer. Therefore, such a\nsystem is a strategic step toward increasing fishermen\u2019s welfare and\nIndonesia\u2019s export competitiveness.<\/p>\n
\u201cI very much welcome and appreciate the holding of a symposium or\nworkshop on cold chain systems that support the success of the Red and\nWhite Fisherman Village programme,\u201d said Rokhmin Dahuri in his statement\nin Surabaya, East Java, on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Rokhmin revealed that of approximately 15 million tonnes of\nIndonesian fishery production annually, less than 12 per cent can be\nhandled with a cold chain system. This limitation is one of the issues\ncausing some fishery products to decline in quality or even go to waste\nbefore reaching consumers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the quality of fish and seafood declines, it does not only impact\nthe economy through low selling prices or products becoming unsellable.\nThere are also impacts on health and our export value,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to him, this issue has a ripple effect. When fish quality\ndrops, fishermen\u2019s selling prices are pressured. On the other hand,\nproducts that are not handled properly can pose health risks and\nstruggle to meet export market standards.<\/p>\n
This condition also explains why Indonesia, despite being one of the\nworld\u2019s large fishery producers, still lags in export value compared to\ncountries such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Norway.<\/p>\n
To address these challenges, Rokhmin encouraged the use of more\nefficient and environmentally friendly cold chain technology. He stated\nthat low-carbon or even zero-carbon technology needs to be implemented\nin the national fishery system, particularly by utilising Indonesia\u2019s\nsolar energy potential.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must utilise increasingly sophisticated technology, especially\nregarding low-carbon or zero-carbon technology. Indonesia is a treasure\ntrove of solar energy resources,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Rokhmin continued that the use of solar energy could be applied\ngradually to various needs in the fishery sector, ranging from fishing\nvessels, cold storage, and refrigerators to cool boxes. He reminded that\ncooling systems in the fishery sector should gradually cease to depend\non fossil fuels or petrol.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the need for efficient cold chain technology is also a\nfocus for the industry. PT DS Solutions International, as the official\nrepresentative of TITAN Containers in Indonesia, introduced portable\ncold storage technology at the RHVAC Indonesia 2026 exhibition held from\n9\u201311 September 2026 at the Nusantara Indonesia Convention Exhibition\n(NICE), PIK2, Hall 5 & 6.<\/p>\n
In an event bringing together business players, engineers, and\noperators in the refrigeration, HVAC, and cold chain industries, TITAN\nContainers presented two portable cold storage units directly at their\nbooth. Additionally, the company will hold a business presentation on\nthe second day of the exhibition to introduce cooled storage solutions\nto the food, beverage, fishery, and pharmaceutical sectors.<\/p>\n
The two units displayed are the ArcticBlast 20FT and the ArcticStore\nHorizon 40FT. The ArcticBlast 20FT is a unit designed for rapid chilling\nand blast freezing, featuring a dual-engine system capable of lowering\ntemperatures to -40\u00b0C. This technology is intended for commodities such\nas meat, poultry, and seafood that require rapid cooling or freezing to\nmaintain product quality.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the ArcticStore Horizon 40FT is the latest generation of\nthe ArcticStore family, introduced to Indonesia for the first time at\nthe event. This unit has a temperature range of -30\u00b0C to +30\u00b0C and\nclaims to reduce average energy consumption by up to 55 per cent\ncompared to conventional reefers. This efficiency is supported by the\nlatest generation of insulation panels and a refrigerant with a Global\nWarming Potential (GWP) of 0.5. The Horizon unit can also be equipped\nwith optional solar panels, which can typically reduce energy\nconsumption by a further 25 per cent.<\/p>\n
While opening opportunities for cooperation with foreign companies,\nRokhmin emphasised that the government must ensure such partnerships\nprovide maximum benefits to the national industry. One aspect that needs\nto be strengthened is the level of Domestic Component Level (TKDN),\nincluding encouraging the domestic production of cold chain technology\ncomponents.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe benefits of cooperation with foreign nations must be realised\nimmediately, namely technology transfer, added value must remain with\nus, and the benefits for labour must also be for us. We must not simply\nimport finished goods without any components being produced\ndomestically,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n
He ensured that Commission IV of the DPR RI will help oversee this\npolicy so that international cooperation does not stop at technology\nimport activities.
