        "content": "<p>Roche clarifies<\/p>\n<p>I am writing in response to an article published on June 22,<br>\n2000 in The Jakarta Post entitled Roche rules out withdrawal from<br>\nRI despite legal fiasco.<\/p>\n<p>The article stated that Roche would not pull out of Indonesia<br>\neven if it loses the appeal over a controversial Rp 281 billion<br>\nfine imposed by the South Jakarta Court.<\/p>\n<p>I wish to state categorically that Roche Indonesia will not be<br>\npaying Rp 281 billion under any circumstances, and we believe<br>\nthat we will be successful with our appeal. If the appeal is not<br>\nsuccessful, although I have recommended to top management that<br>\nRoche stay in Indonesia, higher Roche management levels will make<br>\nany further decisions.<\/p>\n<p>In closing, may I state that both Roche and Roche Indonesia's<br>\nlawyers remain absolutely of the opinion that we have both<br>\nlegally and ethically abided by the distribution contract that<br>\nwas signed by the two companies only four years ago.<\/p>\n<p>DIETER GARBADE<\/p>\n<p>President Director<\/p>\n<p>PT Roche Indonesia<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta<\/p>",
