Jakarta \u2014 A spate of robberies carried out under the guise of false\naccusations that had gone viral on social media has finally been brought\nto an end. The Mobile Brigade Sub-directorate of the Jakarta\nMetropolitan Police\u2019s General Crime Directorate has successfully\napprehended a suspect identified by the initials AA.<\/p>\n
The suspect was known to operate by accusing victims of having\nharassed his sister. Under the pressure of these false allegations,\nvictims would panic and comply with the suspect\u2019s demands, ultimately\nleading to the seizure of their belongings.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Mobile Brigade Sub-directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan\nPolice\u2019s General Crime Directorate has successfully uncovered a case of\nrobbery involving false accusations that had gone viral on social\nmedia,\u201d said Jakarta Metropolitan Police Public Relations Chief Senior\nCommissioner Budi Hermanto to reporters on Saturday, 21 February\n2026.<\/p>\n
AA\u2019s actions had previously been captured on CCTV cameras and spread\nwidely across social media. In the circulating footage, the suspect\ncould be seen pulling up alongside victims on a motorcycle before taking\nthem as a pillion passenger.<\/p>\n
One incident occurred on Jalan Winong, Sudimara Jaya, Ciledug,\nTangerang City, on 8 February 2026. On that occasion, the suspect\npressured the victim with accusations of having committed indecent acts\nagainst his sister.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnder pressure and threats, the panicked victim then complied with\nthe suspect\u2019s demand to accompany him. After going with the suspect, the\nvictim was taken to a secluded location. There, the suspect began\nchoking the victim and seized their mobile phone before fleeing the\nscene,\u201d Hermanto said.<\/p>\n
AA\u2019s time on the run came to an end in the early hours of Thursday,\n19 February 2026. Police arrested him at a rented room in a narrow\nalleyway in the Cipulir area, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe suspect, who had just arrived home for his sahur meal, offered\nno resistance and was powerless when he realised that those who had come\nfor him were officers from the Mobile Brigade Sub-directorate,\u201d Hermanto\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Before investigators, AA confessed to all of his actions. He also\nadmitted to having carried out similar offences on four occasions at\ndifferent locations.<\/p>\n
\u201cStarting from the Tanah Abang area, then Serpong, Manggarai, and his\nmost recent act in Ciledug,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Police are continuing to investigate the possibility of additional\nvictims.
