Robbers get away with US$75,000<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: A group of four robbers shot a money changer in the
\nback and stole US$75,000 during a noon traffic jam near the army
\nheadquarters on Jl. Veteran, Central Jakarta, on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The victim, Jumanto, told reporters from his bed at the Cipto
\nMangunkusumo hospital's intensive care unit, that he and his
\ncolleague Hermanto had just withdrawn the money from Bank
\nInternasional Indonesia (BII) in nearby Juanda.<\/p>\n
Hermanto put the US$75,000 under his jacket. He was operating
\nthe motorbike with Jumanto, 31, on the rear seat, and they were
\nheading back to their office in the Roxy area.<\/p>\n
Just minutes after they left the bank however, four robbers on
\ntwo motorbikes approached them, shot Jumanto and ripped the
\njacket off of Hermanto, who lost control of the bike after the
\nshooting.<\/p>\n
The victims fell to the street while the robbers managed to
\nescape with the cash. The police are currently investigating the

JAKARTA: Former city governor Ali Sadikin, 75, received an
\naward from the National Institute of Sciences (LIPI) on Thursday
\nfor his role in maritime development during his term from 1966 to
\n1977.<\/p>\n
LIPI presented the Sarwono Award to Ali, who had supported
\nmaritime research in three areas covering 19 hectares in Ancol,
\nNorth Jakarta, which is now known as the LIPI Oceanology Research
\nCenter, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
Ali also inaugurated the maritime research center in Pulau
\nPari, located north of Jakarta, in 1967.<\/p>\n
A retired lieutenant general, Ali looked weak as he suffers
\nfrom kidney problems. But he enthusiastically told reporters of
\nhis commitment to make Jakarta a maritime city and criticized the
\ngovernment for their failure to curb illegal fishing activities.

JAKARTA: PT Palyja's clean water supply will remain below
\nnormal levels for several more days because of a decrease in raw
\nwater supplies for its Pejompongan Water Treatment Plant.<\/p>\n
A release from the water company on Thursday said the
\nsignificant drop was due to the closure of a gate on the West
\nTarum Canal by nearby residents who use the canal water for
\nirrigation in Cikarang, West Java.<\/p>\n
The drop in the water supply will affect customers in Muara
\nKarang, Muara Angke and Pluit in North Jakarta; Jembatan Tiga,
\nTanah Pasir, Rawa Bebek, Bandengan Utara\/Selatan, Gedong Panjang,
\nMangga Dua, Glodok, Kali Besar, Mangga Besar, Tambora,
\nJembatan Lima and Pangeran Jayakarta in West Jakarta; and
\nMenteng, Suharjo and Bukit Duri in Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n

JAKARTA: A woman who had just withdrawn money from a Bank BCA
\nwas robbed upon her arrival at her house on Jl. Menteng Dalam in
\nSetiabudi, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The victim suffered cuts on her right arm and her back in the
\nincident.<\/p>\n
The robbery took place at about 2 p.m. on Wednesday after
\nMuhlena, 32, had withdrawn Rp 15 million from the bank on Jl.
\nSahardjo, South Jakarta, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
The victim went to the bank with her two sisters and her
\ndriver, and went home immediately after withdrawing the money.
\nWhen her car arrived at her house, she exited the vehicle
\ncarrying one of her sister's bag.<\/p>\n
Two robbers on a motorcycle, who had apparently followed the
\nvictim from the bank, then approached. One of them cut the strap
\nof the bag Muhlena was carrying, cutting the victim's arm and
\nback in the process.<\/p>\n
The robbers then fled with the bag, which contained Rp 1
\nmillion, two gold rings and some other items. The Rp 15 million
\nMuhlena had taken from the bank was left untouched in the car.<\/p>\n
Several people who witnessed the incident did not attempt to
\nintervene after one of the robbers threatened them with a
