Robbers break into Islamic school<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): About 600 students of an Islamic education
\ninstitute in Pondok Aren, Tangerang, have enjoyed extra holidays
\nafter eight unidentified men broke into the premises Friday and
\nmade off with two computers, two television sets and Rp 1.5
\nmillion (US$555) in cash.<\/p>\n
The Perguruan Al-Azhar III students, ranging in age from
\nkindergarten to junior high school, were asked to stay home while
\nthe police conducted their investigation, the institute's
\nchairman, Machfud, said over the weekend.<\/p>\n
He did not specify the length of the holiday but asked the
\nstudents to attend school yesterday for a flag-hoisting ceremony
\nto commemorate the country's independence day.<\/p>\n
Police quoted one of the school's security guards as saying
\nthat the eight intruders entered the building and threatened
\nsecurity guards Sunarto and Abdul Majid and gardener Hidup
\nMaulana with machetes.<\/p>\n
Sunarto, Majid and Hidup were then tied up and undressed by
\nthe men before they entered the school's administration office
\nand stole the goods and the money, the eyewitness said.<\/p>\n
The robbers then entered another building and stole a
\ntelevision. They escaped in a van.<\/p>\n
It was the fourth such burglary of a school in and around
\nJakarta in the past three weeks.<\/p>\n
A Ricci Foundation school, also in Pondok Aren; Don Bosco
\nsenior high school in Cilandak, South Jakarta; and Caritas
\nFoundation junior and senior high schools, in Lebak Bulus, South
\nJakarta were previously burglarized by unidentified men.<\/p>\n
