Robber shot dead, five others held<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police officers shot dead a man and arrested
\nfive others who were caught red-handed mugging a motorist on Jl.
\nSetia Kawan Ujung, Duri Pulo subdistrict, Gambir, Central
\nJakarta, on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Gambir subprecinct police detective chief Second. Insp. Bayu
\nDewantoro identified the shot robber as a vagrant, Ali Akbar, 28.
\nwho, along with his five accomplices, had just robbed Joni
\nNuriman, 38, a resident of Angke subdistrict, Tambora, West
\nJakarta. He had been riding a motorcycle with his wife.<\/p>\n
Bayu said one of the robbers held a knife to Joni's neck as he
\nstopped at Jl. Setia Kawan Ujung traffic lights, and ordered him
\nto hand over his wallet.<\/p>\n
The frightened victim handed over his wallet containing Rp
\n106,000 in cash and several documents. But, as the six robbers
\nwere about to escape, the victim suddenly shouted "thieves!",
\nBayu said.<\/p>\n
He said two detectives from Gambir police subprecinct, Brig.
\nSartiono and First. Adj. Brig. Agus Wiyono, heard the victim's
\nshouts and immediately chased the escaping robbers.<\/p>\n
"My officer shot dead one of the robbers to prevent them
\nescaping. After seeing one of their number collapse, the other
\nfive stopped running and surrendered themselves," Bayu said. (01)<\/p>",
