Although often subject to enforcement, these informal services\npersist because they offer a quick and relatively affordable repair\noption for the public.<\/p>\n
According to him, the service has grown because there are always\nconsumers who need quick vehicle body repairs without having to go to an\nofficial body repair shop.<\/p>\n
\u201cRoadside paint and bodywork services have been around for a long\ntime; it\u2019s not a new trend,\u201d said Bebin when contacted by Kompas.com,\nThursday (14\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
According to him, this type of service is an alternative for vehicle\nowners who want to repair minor damage at a lower cost.<\/p>\n
The work process is also considered much faster than at an official\nrepair shop.<\/p>\n
However, Bebin cautioned that low costs are usually directly\nproportional to the simple quality of the work.<\/p>\n
The paintwork is not always durable due to the limited materials and\nequipment used.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, the prices are also standard for roadside services, with\nthe consequence that the quality of the work is mediocre and not\nlong-lasting,\u201d said Bebin.<\/p>\n
He said that customers of roadside paint services generally come from\nthose who do not have vehicle insurance or drivers who want to quickly\nrepair minor damage without reporting it to the vehicle owner.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis service is for those who don\u2019t have insurance coverage,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
However, he said that the quality of official repair shops is not\nalways perfect either.<\/p>\n
According to him, many roadside painters actually have good technical\nskills because they used to work in large repair shops.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the lower middle class tends to look for cheap and\nfast services rather than official repair shops.<\/p>\n
Based on BPS data from February 2026, the number of informal workers\nin Jakarta reached around 1.98 million people, or 38.13 percent of the\ntotal working population.<\/p>\n
\u201cBusinesses like roadside paint services grow because there is\ndemand, but also because people are looking for alternative sources of\nincome,\u201d said Rizal.<\/p>\n
