Road accidents claim 14 lives<\/p>\n

At least 14 people died in road accident on Friday, as most
\nIndonesian Muslims were preparing to observe the Idul Fitri
\nholidays next week.<\/p>\n
Ten people were killed in a road accident in the East Java
\ndistrict of Paiton, while the other four died in another accident
\nin South Lampung regency, Lampung province.<\/p>\n
Brig. Wayan, a police officer at the Paiton police
\nsubprecinct, said the tragic accident in Paiton began as a tanker
\ntruck was heading south west toward Surabaya, from Probolinggo
\nregency in Friday morning.<\/p>\n
Suddenly, a minibus was seen overtaking two horse-drawn carts
\nfrom the opposite direction. The minibus was apparently going
\ntoo fast to stop, according to the police officer.<\/p>\n
As a result, 10 people were killed and 17 others were badly
\ninjured in the accident, said Agus, a paramedic at the Kraksaan
\nHospital Emergency Unit.<\/p>\n
Four people died instantly in the accident, while six others
\ndied on the way to Kraksaan hospital. It was not clear whether
\nall the victims were the passengers of the minibus, which was
\noverloaded with 24 fishermen.<\/p>\n
The injured people were admitted to Kraksaan Hospital in
\nProbolinggo for further medical treatment. The accident, which
\noccurred in Jabung Sisir subdistrict, then caused a severe
\ntraffic jam in the area.<\/p>\n
The accident happened just a month after another tragic
\naccident took place in the nearby area of Banyu Glugur, located
\nin neighboring Situbondo regency.<\/p>\n
The accident killed 55 people, mostly school girls from
\nYapemda senior high school in Sleman regency, Yogyakarta.<\/p>\n
Separately, four people died instantly and another 19 people
\nwere injured after a loaded bus crashed into a container truck in
\nCandimas subdistrict in South Lampung.<\/p>\n
All the victims were bus passengers, who were employees at a
\nprivate company based in Lippo Cikarang, Bekasi returning to East
\nLampung for the annual Idul Fitri holidays.<\/p>\n
The four people that died in the accident were Wahyudi, 32,
\nSutiono, 28, Siti Astiah, 24 and Ningsih, 23, all residents of
\nEast Lampung.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the 19 injured were being treated at Ummul Thoif
\nIslamic Hospital in South Lampung and Abdul Moeloek hospital in
\nBandar Lampung.<\/p>\n
Chief of South Lampung police subprecinct Adj. Sr. Comr. Budi
\nSantoso said that the accident began when the bus tried to pass
\nanother vehicle in Candimas subdistrict.<\/p>\n
The bus was trying to overtake a truck, but another truck was
\ncoming in the opposite direction, and the result was head-on
\ncollision.<\/p>\n
Budi said that the police were still looking for the bus
\ndriver, who fled the scene after the accident.<\/p>",
