River transportation abandoned<\/p>\n
MARTAPURA, South Kalimantan: Residents of Mekar Sari village,
\nKertak Hanyar district, Banjar regency have gradually moved over
\nto using ground transportation, rather than boats.<\/p>\n
Spokesman for Banjar regency Syahda Mariadi said here on
\nThursday that the main modes of transportation in Kalimantan in
\ngeneral were mostly boats and rafts.<\/p>\n
\"But since the beginning of the 1990s, when the government
\ndeveloped and constructed roads, people, especially the Mekar
\nSari villagers, turned to ground transportation for their daily
\nactivities, which include selling crop produce,\" Syahda said.<\/p>\n
The road development and construction project in the village
\ncontinues, he said, citing that a 700-meter road would be jointly
\nbuilt by locals and Army members.<\/p>\n
\"The project started on Oct. 17 when some 100 Army personnel
