River embankment collapses<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: People in five villages in Kemiri district,
\nTangerang regency, are worried that they will be flooded out as
\nthe Cimanceuri river embankment in the Kelebet village near their
\nhomes has collapsed, despite being built last year by the
\ngovernment's contractor.<\/p>\n
"The Cimanceuri river always overflows in the rainy season.
\nWith the collapsed embankment, the water will definitely inundate
\nthese five villages," said Legok village chief Madkusin on
\nSaturday.<\/p>\n
The five villages include Kelebet, Legok, Karang Anyar, Lontar
\nand Selapanjang.<\/p>\n
"We can't do anything because we have no money to rebuild the
\nembankment," he added.<\/p>\n
Kemiri district chief Chaerul Saleh said that he had reported
\nthe damage to the regency's resettlement and regional
\ninfrastructure agency, which built the embankment last year.
\nThere has not yet been a response.<\/p>\n
A villager from Legok, Hambali, alleged that the damage was
\ncaused by the poor quality of the embankment, built by a
\ncontractor handpicked by the local administration.<\/p>\n
"We hope the Tangerang regency administration will intervene
\nwith this. If the embankment is not repaired before the rainy
\nseason comes, we will definitely be flooded out of our village,"
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
The rainy season is expected to arrive within the next few
