Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s textile and textile product exports grew by 17.4 percent in the first semester of this year, Deputy Trade Minister Mahendra Siregar said here on Thursday.<\/p>\n
He said the country`s exports of textile and textile products reached US$4.95 billion in the period.<\/p>\n
If the trend could be maintained, he believed exports of the products could by the end of the year exceed US$10 billion like in 2008.<\/p>\n
Exports of textile and textile products grew 8.7 percent in 2009 and rose significantly by 17.4 percent in the first semester of this year, he said.<\/p>\n
He said US$10 billion would be a very high figure considering that the country`s main textile and textile product markets were not growing significantly.<\/p>\n
The main markets for Indonesia`s textile and textile products had remained in developed countries such as the US, Japan and Germany.<\/p>\n
\"They remain our most important markets because we will also be exporting high quality products to those countries,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said South Korea, Turkey, China and Brazil had also become potential markets in 2010 as \"the numbers of rich people there are growing,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The value of the country`s textiles and textile product exports has kept growing since 2005.<\/p>\n
According to trade ministry data, the value of textile and textile product exports in 2005 reached US$8.60 billion and the figure rose to US$9.45 billion in 2006 and to US$9.81 in 2007.<\/p>\n
In 2008, it increased further to US$10.14 billion but then dropped to US$9.26 billion in 2009.<\/p>\n
This year the country`s exports of textile and textile products were expected to rise again to at least the same level as in 2008.
