        "content": "<p>RI's stability key to recovery<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (Dow Jones): Indonesia needs social stability, much<br>\nmore than economic reforms as currently being pushed by the<br>\nInternational Monetary Fund, in order to overcome the ongoing<br>\nfinancial crisis crippling the country, Cheng Hong Fong, Nomura<br>\nSingapore Ltd.'s senior vice president for emerging Asia fixed<br>\nincome research, told Dow Jones Newswires yesterday in an<br>\ninterview.<\/p>\n<p>Economic reforms cannot be carried out effectively when the<br>\nsocial situation is not stable, said Fong, citing anti-government<br>\nprotests occurring in Jakarta, the country's capital and riots<br>\nand looting in Medan, North Sumatra.<\/p>\n<p>The country needs to reform its economy, Fong conceded, \"but<br>\nthe question is the timing of the (economic) reforms being pushed<br>\nby the IMF.\"<\/p>\n<p>\"When you've got rising unemployment in the country, it's more<br>\nimportant to have social stability,\" she said.<\/p>\n<p>\"And this will make the political situation unstable which in<br>\nturn will hurt foreign investors confidence,\" Fong explained.<\/p>",
