RI's plan to impose flour duties dropped<\/p>\n

Indonesia has decided to drop its plan to impose anti-dumping
\nduties on wheat flour in order to protect consumers from an
\nincrease in prices, a senior official of the trade and industry
\nministry said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The anti-dumping duties of up to 35 percent on wheat flour
\nimports from the European Union, Australia and the United Arab
\nEmirates were proposed by the country's anti-dumping committee
\n(KADI) in order to protect local flour mills and was expected to
\nbe imposed soon.<\/p>\n
\"The trade and industry minister had asked the finance
\nminister to drop the plan until an indefinite time and the
\nfinance minister has agreed,\" Hatanto Reksodipoetro, director
\nGeneral of international trade cooperation, told reporters.<\/p>\n
\"We have observed the impact of the duties to the consumers
\nand producers, and now we are taking the consumers' side.\"<\/p>\n
The plan to impose anti-dumping duties has drawn objections
\nfrom the country's anti-monopoly commission (KKPU), which said it
\nwould create a more dominant position for Indonesia's largest
\nflour miller PT Bogasari Flour Mills.<\/p>\n
Indonesia allowed private traders to import wheat for the
\nfirst time in decades in 1998 after reaching an agreement with
\nthe International Monetary Fund (IMF) on trade liberalization.<\/p>\n
Before this, state commodity regulator Bulog imported wheat
\nand paid Bogasari to process it for a fee.<\/p>",
