        "content": "<p>RI's plan to impose flour duties dropped<\/p>\n<p>Reuters, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia has decided to drop its plan to impose anti-dumping<br>\nduties on wheat flour in order to protect consumers from an<br>\nincrease in prices, a senior official of the trade and industry<br>\nministry said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The anti-dumping duties of up to 35 percent on wheat flour<br>\nimports from the European Union, Australia and the United Arab<br>\nEmirates were proposed by the country's anti-dumping committee<br>\n(KADI) in order to protect local flour mills and was expected to<br>\nbe imposed soon.<\/p>\n<p>\"The trade and industry minister had asked the finance<br>\nminister to drop the plan until an indefinite time and the<br>\nfinance minister has agreed,\" Hatanto Reksodipoetro, director<br>\nGeneral of international trade cooperation, told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>\"We have observed the impact of the duties to the consumers<br>\nand producers, and now we are taking the consumers' side.\"<\/p>\n<p>The plan to impose anti-dumping duties has drawn objections<br>\nfrom the country's anti-monopoly commission (KKPU), which said it<br>\nwould create a more dominant position for Indonesia's largest<br>\nflour miller PT Bogasari Flour Mills.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia allowed private traders to import wheat for the<br>\nfirst time in decades in 1998 after reaching an agreement with<br>\nthe International Monetary Fund (IMF) on trade liberalization.<\/p>\n<p>Before this, state commodity regulator Bulog imported wheat<br>\nand paid Bogasari to process it for a fee.<\/p>",
