        "content": "<p>RI's investment climate promising<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's commercial and investment<br>\nenvironment is moving in the right direction, a senior executive<br>\nof U.S. firm General Electric has said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a recent hearing with the House Committee of the<br>\nUnited States Congress, R. Michael Gadbaw, vice president of the<br>\nInternational Law and Policy of GE, said the Indonesian economy<br>\nis a model of the private sector investment driven economy.<\/p>\n<p>\"Indonesia is an excellent example of a country where trade --<br>\nnot aid -- has helped conquer poverty and raise living<br>\nstandards,\" Gadbaw told Congress' house committee on<br>\ninternational relations subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific on<br>\nMonday.<\/p>\n<p>The transformation of the Indonesian economy had been marked<br>\nby a steady diversification away from oil production and natural<br>\nresource extraction to diversified manufacturing capability, he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>\"The leadership vision is grounded in 25 years of success in<br>\ndemonstrating the relationship between sound economic policies<br>\nand unparalleled economic growth,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Gadbaw, who is also chairman of the U.S.-ASEAN Business<br>\nCouncil's and U.S.-Indonesia Business Committee said his company<br>\nand the U.S. business community were optimistic that Indonesia<br>\nwould continue progressing.<\/p>\n<p>He referred to Indonesia as the \"center of ASEAN's future\" and<br>\n\"a leader in shaping the ASEAN vision\" in his testimony.<\/p>\n<p>The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) groups<br>\nBrunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand<br>\nand Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the president of GE Southeast Asia, Kenneth Brown,<br>\nsaid Indonesia would continue to play a lead role in GE's global<br>\nand regional strategy.<\/p>\n<p>\"It is a very attractive investment environment for GE,\" Brown<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>GE is a worldwide diversified technology, manufacturing and<br>\nservices company with 12 major businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The company booked US$79.2 billion in revenue and $7l3 billion<br>\nin net earnings last year.<\/p>\n<p>The company said it had invested over $300 million in<br>\nIndonesia.
