RI's Great River wins Disney distribution rights<\/p>\n
SINGAPORE (AFP): Publicly-listed PT Great River International
\nof Indonesia has won distribution and retailing rights for
\nDisney-licensed apparel in key Asian and Middle East markets
\nfollowing an acquisition announced here yesterday.<\/p>\n
Company officials said Great River had acquired Ray Summers, a
\nSingapore-based manufacturer, distributor and retailer of Disney-
\nlicensed apparel and which holds Disney licenses in Hong Kong,
\nAustralia, New Zealand and the Middle East.<\/p>\n
Officials of Walt Disney, owner of the Mickey Mouse brand
\nname, told a news conference that they had brought together the
\nU.S. company's two licensees to create a strong business
\npartnership in the region.<\/p>\n
\"We introduced them, we put them together. We saw something
\ngreater coming out of the sum of the two parts,\" said Jeremy
\nGilla, regional vice-president and managing director of Disney
\nconsumer products.<\/p>\n
Gilla said that the partnership was essential to tap
\nparticularly the booming Southeast Asian market.<\/p>\n
Great River president director Sunjoto Tanudjaja declined to
\ngive details about the acquisition.<\/p>\n
He said further data will be released when the company reports
\nto the Jakarta stock exchange in about a week.<\/p>\n
\"We see an opportunity for tremendous synergy -- between Great
\nRiver's financial and manufacturing strength as well as marketing
\ncapabilities and Ray Summers' strong design skills and wide
\ndistribution network,\" Sunjoto said.<\/p>\n
Ray Summers also distributes merchandise to Tokyo Disneyland.<\/p>\n
Sales of Disney consumer products in the Asia-Pacific region
\ntotaled about US$4 billion last year, Gilla said.<\/p>\n
Great River has 17 sales offices in Indonesia, Singapore and
\nMalaysia and has formed six joint ventures with major Japanese
\nand European textile and apparel groups in textile manufacturing.<\/p>",
