RI's Bosnia peace proposal<\/p>\n
In a statement to reporters, President Soeharto explained the
\nIndonesian view on how to settle the protracted conflict in
\nBosnia-Herzegovina as proposed to the presidents of Croatia and
\nBosnia-Herzegovina. To both presidents, President Soeharto
\nproposed the formation of a confederation among the former
\nYugoslavian states of Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia,
\nMacedonia and Serbia-Motenegro.<\/p>\n
According to President Soeharto, Indonesia's proposal
\nconcerning the formation of a confederation as part of an overall
\nsettlement of that protracted conflict had been accepted by the
\npresidents of Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Therefore, an envoy
\nwill shortly be dispatched to Serbia, Slovenia and Macedonia to
\nclarify the Indonesian proposal and forestall suspicion.<\/p>\n
In the experience of Indonesia, which helped among other
\nthings to settle the Cambodian conflict, a face-to-face meeting
\namong the parties involved is the most effective means of coming
\nto a solution.<\/p>\n
By President Soeharto's conveying those proposals for an
\noverall settlement of the conflict in that region, Indonesia has
\nstarted the ball rolling. It is now up to the parties in the
\nconflict to respond.<\/p>\n
