Rini roundly criticizes rich countries<\/p>\n

Commenting on the collapse of the World Trade Organization (WTO)
\ntalk in Cancun last week, Minister of Industry and Trade Rini
\nM.S. Soewandi expressed her disappointment towards developed
\ncountries, saying Indonesia would focus more on developing
\ncountries as alternative markets.<\/p>\n
"The developed countries' attitude shown during the WTO forum
\n(in Cancun) has given us a very clear sign that poverty in the
\ndeveloping countries will persist because the developed countries
\ncontinue to implement tariff and non-tariff barriers on
\nagricultural products of the developing countries," she said in a
\npress release made available on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
She added that developed countries were completely ignorant
\nand could not create a fair global trade system that could help
\ndeveloping countries alleviate poverty.<\/p>\n
Rini, who departed to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates after the
\nCancun summit, added that the attitude had prompted Indonesia and
\nother poor countries to find alternative markets.<\/p>\n
"We will continue our trade relations with developed
\ncountries. But at the same time we need to widen our market to
\nreduce dependency on developed countries," she said.<\/p>\n
She cited Sharjah as an example of an alternative market.<\/p>\n
She visited Sharjah to officially open Indonesia's product
\nexpo, in a bid to introduce Indonesian products to the Middle
\nEast region.<\/p>\n
After visiting Sharjah, she is scheduled to visit Libya to
\ndiscuss to follow-up on a previous counter trade deal signed by
\nIndonesia and Libya last month.<\/p>",
