        "content": "<p>Rights programs in Timor assisted<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Australia will provide A$300,000 to the International<br>\nCommittee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for its work protecting<br>\ncivilians and \"security detainees\" in East Timor.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian embassy said in a statement yesterday that the<br>\ngrant is part of an ongoing program of assistance through the<br>\nICRC's regional activities, totaling more than A$4 million since<br>\n1982.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said that the ICRC's Jakarta regional delegation<br>\nplays a crucial role in monitoring the security situation in East<br>\nTimor, Aceh and Irian Jaya.<\/p>\n<p>\"In security incidents in East Timor, ICRC delegates work to<br>\nfacilitate peaceful solutions between demonstrators and military<br>\nauthorities,\" the statement said quoting the Australian Minister<br>\nof Development Cooperation Gordon Bilney.
