        "content": "<p>Rights in Timor better respected<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Social and political tensions in East Timor are less<br>\nthis year, giving a boost to respect for human rights, a rights<br>\nactivist and a councilor said.<\/p>\n<p>Clementino Dos Reis Amaral, a member of the National<br>\nCommission on Human Rights said yesterday East Timor is less<br>\ntense than it was last year. In the capital Dili, restaurants and<br>\namusement centers are open until as late as 8 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>A year ago, he said, shops and houses would have closed as<br>\nsoon as sunset, mainly for security concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, Manuel Viegas Carrascalao said the condition of<br>\nhuman rights in East Timor is improving, but warned that the<br>\nundercurrent of tension may surface if stability is not carefully<br>\nmanaged.
