Rights campaigner blasts arson<\/p>\n
MEDAN, North Sumatra: A human rights campaigner condemned
\nyesterday the burning of a house belonging to shaman Ahmad
\nSuraji, who is accused of murdering 42 women, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
The news agency quoted Syafaruddin, a director of the
\nFoundation for the Protection of the Rights of Women and
\nChildren, as saying here that the arson was illegal.<\/p>\n
The shaman, also known as Datuk and Nasib Kelewang, had
\nallegedly killed the women to strengthen his magical power.<\/p>\n
Several unidentified people set fire to the house at 3 a.m.
\nSaturday. Security officers in Cinta Damai village, Deli Serdang
\nregency, extinguished the blaze before it spread to other
\nproperties.<\/p>\n
\"Who would not hate him? But we must all be patient and let
\nthe authorities handle the case and punish him according to the
\nlaw,\" Syafaruddin said.<\/p>\n
The house reportedly contained clothes and jewelry belonging
\nto the victims, who had sought help from the shaman. (swe)<\/p>",
