Rights body probes 'religion change'<\/p>\n
AMBON, Maluku (JP): The National Commission on Human Rights
\n(Komnas HAM) is currently investigating reports that hundreds of
\nChristians living on Kesui Island are allegedly being forced to
\nchange their religion.<\/p>\n
Bambang W. Soeharto, the deputy chief of Komnas HAM said after
\na meeting with Maluku Governor Saleh Latuconsina on Monday that
\nthe civil emergency authorities have made three trips to Kesui
\nisland in East Seram, Central Maluku regency.<\/p>\n
\"They will make a fourth trip this week,\" he said adding that
\nthe commission is also thoroughly investigating the case.<\/p>\n
\"We cannot issue any comment on the matter as we have to be
\naccurate. After a comprehensive probe is completed, we will state
\nour findings,\" Bambang, who is also the chief of the Commission
\nfor Human Rights Violations and Mediation in Maluku, said.<\/p>\n
Another member of Komnas HAM, Insp. Gen. (ret.) Koesparmono
\nIrsan, added that the handling of the case must be expedited to
\navoid a greater international outcry.<\/p>\n
\"If the allegations turn out to be true, it could be twisted
\nto become an international matter and we would then be in a lot
