The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Riau has begun implementing
strict energy-saving measures in response to the global energy crisis.
This policy is carried out through Work From Anywhere (WFA) every
Friday, as well as restrictions on electricity and official vehicle use,
to curb energy consumption while serving as an example to the
community.

Acting Governor of Riau, SF Hariyanto, stressed that the current
global energy crisis is triggered by the escalation of geopolitical
conflicts in the Middle East. One of the key measures emphasised is the
implementation of WFA for civil servants (ASN) within the Riau
Provincial Government every Friday. This policy is expected to reduce
electricity consumption in government office environments.

“In line with the government’s policy to tighten electricity and fuel
use on Fridays, we are implementing WFA. Turn off all lights at night
except in the outer courtyard, and switch off the AC. I will ask the
Secretary and Satpol PP to check,” said SF Hariyanto on Monday
(30/3).

He also instructed periodic evaluations of electricity usage to
ensure the effectiveness of the implemented energy-saving policy. In
addition, savings are applied during weekdays. The use of room air
conditioners is advised to be limited, especially in the morning.

“Likewise, from Monday to Thursday, in the morning, it’s best not to
turn on the AC. Only turn it on when it’s hot or in the afternoon to
save energy,” he stated.

In the transportation sector, the use of official vehicles is also a
focus. Official vehicles are advised not to be used during weekends.

“We use electric vehicles. For official vehicles from Friday to
Sunday, it’s best to keep them at home or on standby,” he said.

According to SF Hariyanto, this step is important to maintain public
trust. The government must set an example in energy-saving efforts.

“We protect the public’s feelings; energy saving starts with us,” he
concluded.
",
