        "content": "<p>The Riau Police Chief, Irjen Herry Heryawan, together with the Head\nof the Riau Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), Supartono,\nvisited the Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN) on Thursday, February 26.\nThis followed the discovery of the carcass of a wild elephant calf in\nthe Lancang Kuning Resort, Section I of the TNTN area.<\/p>\n<p>During the inspection, the Police Chief was accompanied by the\nDirector of Criminal Investigation, the Director of Special Crimes, the\nHead of the Riau Police Forensic Laboratory, and the Head of the BKSDA.\nThis was to ensure that the handling process was carried out seriously,\nmeasurably, and based on scientific examination.<\/p>\n<p>According to initial information, the carcass of the elephant calf\nwas found at around 12:00 PM and was already in a state of\ndecomposition, estimated to have died more than a week ago.<\/p>\n<p>The preliminary suspicion is that the death was related to an\ninfection in the leg, allegedly caused by a snare. The medical team from\nthe TNTN is currently conducting further investigations to determine the\nexact cause of death.<\/p>\n<p>Irjen Herry stated that his presence, along with the criminal\ninvestigation and forensic laboratory units, aimed to ensure that every\nstep of the handling process was carried out professionally and that\nconclusions were not drawn prematurely before the complete results of\nthe examination were obtained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to ensure that the process is based on the facts on the\nground. Therefore, I, along with the director of criminal investigation\nand the forensic laboratory, came directly to see the actual conditions\nand support the ongoing examination process,\u201d said Herry.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the carcass of the elephant calf was found thanks\nto joint patrols between police personnel and forest rangers in the TNTN\narea. According to him, the collaboration in field patrols is an\nimportant factor in detecting various potential threats to wildlife\nearly on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though it was found in a state of decomposition, the presence\nof this elephant calf was detected because of the joint patrol. This is\nan evaluation for us to continue strengthening integrated patrols in\nvulnerable areas,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>The Police Chief added that in the future, they would increase the\nintensity of patrols, especially snare-sweeping patrols, to anticipate\nthe practice of setting snares by poachers and other irresponsible\nparties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will encourage more massive snare-sweeping patrols so that snares\nthat endanger wildlife can be found and immediately removed,\u201d he\nemphasized.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the involvement of the criminal investigation and\nforensic laboratory units is an important part of anticipating the\npossibility of legal violations, without neglecting the medical process\ncarried out by the conservation agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are still waiting for the results of the medical team\u2019s\nexamination through a necropsy.
