RI to post ambassador

JAKARTA: Indonesia said on Thursday it would again post an
\nambassador in Sweden after leaving the job vacant for a year to
\nprotest Stockholm's failure to take action against exiled Aceh
\nseparatists.<\/p>\n
The move to normalize diplomatic ties follows the signing of a
\npeace pact between the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh
\nMovement (GAM) in August in Helsinki, ending a nearly three-
\ndecade separatist insurgency in the tsunami-ravaged province.<\/p>\n
The process of selecting of a new ambassador to Sweden will
\ntake several months, foreign ministry spokesman Yuri Thamrin
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\"We have to submit names to parliament first,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Indonesia had in the past repeatedly urged the Swedish
\ngovernment to take action against exiled GAM leaders who hold
\nSwedish citizenship, accusing them of directing a campaign of
\nkillings and kidnappings in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
In response to the pressure, Swedish prosecutors last year
\nraided the homes of three GAM leaders -- self-styled \"prime
\nminister\" Malik Mahmud, \"foreign minister\" Zaini Abdullah and co-
\nfounder Hasan di Tiro.<\/p>\n
But they closed the case against Di Tiro a month later, citing
\nhis ailing health and in April dropped the investigation into
\nAbdullah and Mahmud owing to a lack of evidence. --AFP<\/p>",
