RI to join UN force in Congo<\/p>\n
Two soldiers from the Army's equipment division (Zeni) inspect
\na remote-controlled bomb and landmine disposal unit at the 13th
\nZeni Battalion in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The unit was among hundreds of items of equipment prepared for
\ntheir deployment to Congo, Africa, to support the UN peacekeeping
\nforce there.<\/p>\n
Other equipment included tractors, water and oil tanker
\ntrucks, electricity generators, operational vehicles,
\ntelecommunications and medical equipment, including outdoor
\nsurgery facilities.<\/p>\n
In addition to the equipment, the Indonesian Military would
\nalso send about 100 personnel from the Army, Navy and Air Force
\nto join the peacekeeping force.<\/p>\n
The soldiers engaged in two days of preparations starting
\nThursday at the 13th Zeni Battalion in Lenteng Agung. They are
\nscheduled to be dispatched to Congo after the Idul Fitri
\nholidays.<\/p>\n
Maj. Gen. Eddi Budianto, director of the Indonesian
\nPeacekeeping Center, said during the preparation training on
\nThursday that despite various difficulties at home, Indonesia
\nwould continue to support the UN peacekeeping force as \"keeping
\nthe peace in the world is our goal.\"<\/p>\n
Also witnessing the preparations were Col. Virinder Singh
\nDadhwal and Elizabeth George from the UN peacekeeping force.<\/p>\n
Eddi said that in Congo, Indonesian soldiers would be tasked
\nto help defuse various explosives as well as destroy ammunition
\nand arms.<\/p>\n
They would also be asked to help Congo people build public
\nfacilities and repair the country's airbase facilities and
