        "content": "<p>RI to boost regional trade<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AP): To reduce its growing trade deficit,<br>\nIndonesia said yesterday it would trim commerce with richer<br>\ncountries and turn to Southeast Asian markets.<\/p>\n<p>Iman Taufik, Indonesia's ambassador to the Association of<br>\nSoutheast Asian Nations, said his crisis-hit country was spending<br>\ntoo much on capital goods, or the component goods used for<br>\nbuilding larger products, from developed countries.<\/p>\n<p>\"This may be one of our problems in the past,\" Iman was quoted<br>\nas saying by the Bernama news agency. \"Our deficit in capital<br>\ngoods, electronic and automotive (sectors) from the North<br>\ncountries amounted to US$40 billion (in 1995), which we have to<br>\nreduce.\"<\/p>\n<p>Iman, who is visiting Kuala Lumpur, said Indonesia planned to<br>\nbuy more from its ASEAN \"brothers,\" including more car parts from<br>\nMalaysia.<\/p>\n<p>Other Southeast Asian nations also have suffered from<br>\ndeclining currencies.<\/p>",
