RI students to enter int'l contests<\/p>\n

Two high school students from the Central Java town of Surakarta
\nwill be taking part in international contests this year.<\/p>\n
Fajar Yuliawan, a student at state-run SMP I in Surakarta,
\nwill participate in a world mathematics contest in Japan in
\nAugust, while Aditya Dharma Surya, who attends the same high
\nschool, will take part in the World School Debate Championships
\nin Peru in July.<\/p>\n
Principal Tatik Surati Suryo said on Friday Indonesia would
\nsend three students, including Aditya, to the debate
\nchampionships. The other two students are from Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Both Fajar and Aditya were recognized by the government for
\ntheir educational achievements as part of the celebrations for
\nNational Education Day on Friday.<\/p>\n
Surakarta Mayor Slamet Suryanto, during a ceremony to mark the
\nday, singled out the two students in a speech and called on them
\nto set a good example for other students to work hard and develop
\ntheir knowledge.<\/p>\n
\"I am proud of them because they will be Indonesia's
\nambassadors to the two international contests, which will be a
\ngood opportunity for them to have a memorable experience and to
\nrepair the country's image in the international world. We hope
\nthey have made the necessary preparations to win the contests,\"
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Besides singling out Fajar and Aditya for praise, the mayor
\nalso honored 99 civil servants and teachers as well as state-run
\njunior high school 5, which won a national contest aimed at
\nimproving the learning process.<\/p>",
