        "content": "<p>RI seeks contract with UAE<\/p>\n<p>ABU DHABI (Reuter): Indonesia is seeking a $250-270 million<br>\ncontract to supply maritime patrol aircraft to the United Arab<br>\nEmirates, Indonesian Foreign Minister Ali Alatas said during a<br>\nvisit to the Gulf Arab state on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We are interested in bidding for a contract to supply<br>\naircraft for maritime patrol...we are bidding for the supply of<br>\nCN-235, a joint venture production between Spain and Indonesia,&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Alatas told a news conference in the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi.<br>\nIndonesia has already supplied seven military versions of the CN-<br>\n235 to the UAE which are now in operation.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The bidding is still going on,&quot; Alatas said, adding that<br>\nfirms from Spain and Canada were also bidding for the aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>The two governments on Thursday signed a memorandum of<br>\nunderstanding to provide bilateral trade consultations.<br>\nAlatas is visiting Abu Dhabi and Qatar on his return to Jakarta<br>\nfrom this week&apos;s Islamic summit in Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier reports said that eight countries, including Turkey,<br>\nArgentina, the United States, Pakistan, Columbia, Saudi Arabia,<br>\nBurkina Faso, and Sweden, have expressed interest in buying N-250<br>\ncommuter aircraft produced domestically by Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The state-owned aircraft manufacturer PT Industri Pesawat<br>\nTerbang Nusantara (IPTN) saidt Pakistan had made a firm<br>\ncommitment to buy 15 N-250 turboprop airplanes, Columbia to<br>\npurchase four units, and Sweden another 12 units.<\/p>\n<p>The other five countries have expressed strong interest in<br>\npurchasing the fly-by-wire airplanes but have yet to make firm<br>\norders.<\/p>",
