RI seeks changes in Malacca patrol<\/p>\n
MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Indonesia is seeking some
\nadjustments to the implementation of the joint air patrol of
\npirate-infested Strait of Malacca.<\/p>\n
Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Najib bin Abdul Razak
\nsaid here over the weekend that he had been informed that
\nIndonesia wanted some changes made before the patrols began.<\/p>\n
He would not elaborate on the changes, but the joint air
\nsurveillance, code named \"Eyes in Sky\", initially required the
\nthree littoral countries to conduct two sorties per week in each
\ndesignated area of operation.<\/p>\n
Experts say 25 percent of the world's sea-borne trade and 50
\npercent of its oil supplies are carried through the Strait of
\nMalacca and the Singapore Strait. -- JP<\/p>",
