RI, S. Africa business forum<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia and South Africa plan to establish a
\nbusiness forum to encourage bilateral trade, investment and
\ntourism, Antara reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Haryono Eddyarto, head of the committee for South Africa at
\nthe Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) said both
\ncountries were enthusiastic and had agreed to speed up the
\npreparation for initial operation early next year.<\/p>\n
South African Ambassador B.S. Kubheka said that such a forum
\nwas needed to promote bilateral trade and investment.<\/p>\n
Head of Kadin's foreign relations Imam Taufik shared the
\nopinion, saying the planned forum would also serve as a
\ncommunication channel to disseminate business information.<\/p>\n
He added that the forum could help develop South Africa as a
\nbeachhead for Indonesian exports to the rest of Africa and Latin
\nAmerica.<\/p>\n
According to the news agency, Indonesia-South Africa bilateral
\ntrade last year totaled US$300 million, of which $157 million
\nconsisted of Indonesian exports mainly consisting of furniture,
\npaper, textiles and textile-related products.<\/p>\n
Indonesian imports from South Africa comprised mainly
\nminerals, heavy equipment and car spare parts. (06)<\/p>",
