Africa business forum<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia and South Africa plan to establish a<br>\nbusiness forum to encourage bilateral trade, investment and<br>\ntourism, Antara reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Haryono Eddyarto, head of the committee for South Africa at<br>\nthe Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) said both<br>\ncountries were enthusiastic and had agreed to speed up the<br>\npreparation for initial operation early next year.<\/p>\n<p>South African Ambassador B.S. Kubheka said that such a forum<br>\nwas needed to promote bilateral trade and investment.<\/p>\n<p>Head of Kadin&apos;s foreign relations Imam Taufik shared the<br>\nopinion, saying the planned forum would also serve as a<br>\ncommunication channel to disseminate business information.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the forum could help develop South Africa as a<br>\nbeachhead for Indonesian exports to the rest of Africa and Latin<br>\nAmerica.<\/p>\n<p>According to the news agency, Indonesia-South Africa bilateral<br>\ntrade last year totaled US$300 million, of which $157 million<br>\nconsisted of Indonesian exports mainly consisting of furniture,<br>\npaper, textiles and textile-related products.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesian imports from South Africa comprised mainly<br>\nminerals, heavy equipment and car spare parts.
